Head veterinarian, owner
Dr Cassandra Nelson is known as a bloody good scone cook, a sewing enthusiast, mum-Mum-MUM (they never say it once, right?), lousy gardener and even worse mechanic! I tend to wear a lot of hats, but my heart and soul belongs to Veterinary Science.
I am a bush kid at heart who grew up on stations around Richmond, NW Qld. Riding horses and fixing 'broken' animals was a way of life not a career choice.
A University of Melbourne 2011 graduate, Dr Cassie has worked in busy mixed clinics all over QLD and even 2 years in a major teaching hospital (UQ Vets) as an Emergency & Critical Care veterinarian.
Dr Cassie fell in love with Longreach in 2021 and moved her family back closer to her home town. You won't find her drinking coffee! But a nice cup of Earl Grey with milk, will always get a smile!
Dr Cassie is passionate about teaching and improving our veterinary industry, one local vet owned practice at a time.
Experienced Veterinarian
We're excited to officially welcome *Dr Amy Campbell* to the Meliora Veterinary Services team.
Amy graduated University of Qld, 2022 and brings a wealth of mixed-practice experience, a genuine love of rural life, and the kind of calm, down-to-earth approach that fits right in here in the Central West.
Growing up on the land and coming from a strong country background, Amy understands the unique challenges and rewards of caring for animals in regional communities. Whether she's working with family pets, horses, or livestock, she combines practical experience with a thoughtful, compassionate approach to veterinary care.
One thing we've already learned about Amy? If you're making a coffee run, don't be fooled—her order is actually a cup of tea with milk and a spoonful of honey!
Nurse, Admin, Organiser of Chaos
Katrina is a practical, down-to-earth professional whose previous life experience includes being a multi-disciplined Medical Scientist. Katrina even had a stint at the main animal pathology testing facility, IDEXX Laboratories, in Brisbane.
Meliora are most excited that Katrina now brings all that attention to detail and problem-solving into her work supporting the Meliora team in the 'Back of house" operations. Katrina is most excited about the client and patient facing operations - especially the Puppy Cuddles!!
When she isn't at work, loving on your fur babies, you will find her at home with a skinny latte, loving on her family and pets or down at the stables with her equine main man, Leo.
School-Based Trainee
Poppy has officially joined the crew as our School-Based Trainee in Vet Nursing - and we’re so excited to have her on board!
Born and bred in Longreach, Poppy describes herself as independent, patient and vibrant… which honestly fits her perfectly already.
What does she love most about Meliora? The diversity, the unpredictability, and never being stuck in one place - sounds like she’ll fit right into the organised chaos around here!
